For years, the team behind our digitization service bureau has done some of the most sophisticated work in this field — capturing the fragile, the rare, the difficult, and increasingly helping institutions dig deeper into their images after the capture process. That work has quietly outgrown the name it was operating under. Today, we’re giving it the name it’s earned: DT DigiLabs.
This is more than a rebrand. Alongside the new name, we’re introducing a new division and its four innovative products — DT Identify, DT Cipher, DT Registrar, and DT Advanced Projects — that extend past capture and into the work of turning finished images into searchable, structured knowledge. Everything is available in the DT DigiLabs section of our website.

A New Name for Work That Had Already Changed
Long-time partners may remember this team as Pixel Acuity. As our capabilities and innovative tool sets have grown, this name has come to describe a narrower business than the one that exists today. What started as a digitization service has grown into something broader: a team that also builds the advanced digital intelligence tools institutions need to make the data within those collections discoverable.
DT DigiLabs is the name for that full scope. It sits alongside DT Heritage (the hardware, software, and workflow systems institutions purchase to run their own digitization programs) as the division that owns everything that happens to a digital asset from the moment of capture onward.
DT DigiLabs is a team of digitization product, process, and technology experts who pride themselves on taking on the digitization challenges others hesitate to touch — the fragile, the rare, the archive too unique for typical workflows.
Whether you need preservation-grade capture and material handling, advanced tools to turn digital assets into accessible knowledge, or an entirely new custom solution for your singular collection, DT DigiLabs is the team built to take it on. With decades of digitization experience and expertise, global reach, and a standard of quality we refuse to lower, we don’t just process your images — we make sure nothing in them stays hidden.
DT DigiLabs — Because there’s more to your collection than pixels.
Three Ways to Work With Us
The new positioning is built around three ways institutions can work with DT DigiLabs — separately or combined:
1. Imaging of Collections
Preservation-grade image capture and material handling for any material type, in our facility or on-site — the foundation the rest of DT DigiLabs is built on. Full detail on our Digitization & Capture page.
2. Analysis of Collections
Turning finished images into searchable, structured knowledge — available whether or not DT DigiLabs performed the original capture. This is where our three new à la carte products live DT Identify, DT Cipher, and DT Registrar.
3. Special & Advanced Projects
Custom capture and consulting for challenges that don’t fit a standard process — non-standard, delicate, exotic, or dangerous materials, and everything in between.

Four Products, Built Because Nothing Else Existed
Many of the tools behind these products were built in-house because nothing suitable for cultural heritage work already existed on the market. Each is available on its own, or bundled with a capture project — and each carries the “DT” name that already marks our hardware and software.
DT Identify
Facial recognition and identity search across photo and film collections. DT Identify finds every photo of a specific person across decades of material, clusters unidentified faces so your team names a person once instead of image-by-image, and generates face-based metadata automatically. It’s built for sports archives, media and entertainment libraries, museums, and government and institutional archives full of unnamed faces. DT Cipher
Advanced OCR built for historic material — cursive handwriting, faded ink, period typefaces, and damaged documents — with multi-language output, translation, and recovery of lost or endangered languages. DT Cipher builds controlled, topic-specific vocabularies around each collection’s actual subject matter and delivers searchable text in the formats institutions already use, including PDF/A and METS/ALTO. DT Registrar
Named for the museum profession’s own job title for the person responsible for knowing exactly what’s in a collection, object by object — DT Registrar does that job at scale. It automatically recognizes and tags what’s actually in an image, generates structured metadata tailored to a collection’s specific cataloging needs, and turns tens of thousands of unsearched images into a collection you can search by object, subject, or content. Learn more about DT Registrar, or read our full product deep dive.
DT Advanced Projects
For the collections and challenges that don’t fit a standard process at all: non-standard capture, sequential imaging, deteriorating or hazardous materials, and 3D objects. Every DT Advanced Projects engagement starts from the same premise — we’ve never done exactly this before — and draws on DT Heritage’s own imaging engineers when new hardware or technique is required.
