In August 2019 we lost a valued and loved member of our professional family: Chris Edwards. Since 2014, he was the Digital Imaging Architect at the J.Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. Previously, he worked at the Beinecke Library at Yale University in New Haven. Chris was a moderator of ImageMuse and a frequent contributor to industry conferences. He was an inspiring figure in our community. He was also my close friend, and I was both shocked and deeply saddened by his sudden passing. His extraordinary energy and “call it like he sees it ” personality, along with his commitment to the betterment of Cultural Heritage endeared him to everyone he met and he will be missed, both professionally and personally, by many. As a tribute to Chris, and hoping to make something positive come from tragedy, we’ve partnered with ImageMuse to create The Chris Edwards Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship will support professional and early-career development in the field of Cultural Heritage Imaging and Archiving. In this inaugural year, we are happy to support proposals to attend the IS&T 2020 Archiving conference at NARA in Washington DC May 18-21, 2020 with the maximum scholarship of $2,500. Depending on the travel and lodging needs of the recipient, more than one award may be presented. Associated costs that can be covered under the scholarship include:
• IS&T Archiving 2020 Conference Fee
• Short Course Enrollment Fees
• Room and Board
• Transportation to Washington DC
• Transportation Costs to and from the Venue
Interested parties should submit a current resume and an application using this google form. Applicants must be residents of North America and employed by a museum, university, library, cultural organization or in a role associated with collection imaging or archiving. Applicants must have been a member of the ImageMuse listserve as of 1/31/2020. Preference will be given to emerging professionals in the field.
Applications are due by March 13, 2020. Digital Transitions itself will not participating in the selection of the awardees, so as to avoid conflicts of interest; instead, an independent panel consisting of senior ImageMuse members will determine awardee(s) on or before March 30th.
