Cultural Heritage Disaster Relief Conversations & Resources
Cultural Heritage & the Threat of Disaster
In just the first 4 months of 2024, 16 cultural heritage buildings or sites were threatened or destroyed by fire.
We all watched Notre-Dame burn with so much heartache; afterwards it’s been beautiful to watch France restore and rebuild that piece of history. From the Copenhagen Stock Exchange fire where hundreds of years of records and history were lost forever, to the tragic destruction to historical sites due to the conflicts around the world, and now watching the Getty and other organizations in LA worry about their families and homes while also safe-guarding huge collections effectively, this is an increasingly critical conversation.
We wanted to share some articles and resources that we have found around this topic. We’re really passionate about digitizing and preserving history!! If you have additional resources or articles you’d like to add to this list, please contact us!
